With our league kicking off on Saturday, I thought I would check out which bookies are giving best value.
For those who want the extension of having a bet to (hopefully) last the whole season I will start with the league 1 winner’s bet.
Not surprisingly Sunderland are favourites @ 7/2 with most bookies, followed by Ipswich and Portsmouth with 6/1 or 7/1 generally available. As one of the favourites for relegation our beloved Blues are available in local bookies 50/1 or on-line @66/1 (Blacktype), most bookies offer each way bets @ ¼ of the odds to finish in the first three.
This (e/w) would possibly temp a punt on Peterborough around 10/1 at most betting shops or Lincoln @16/ 1 but you can get 20/1 at Bet365. For those who fancy the Shimper’s to gain promotion 14/1 is available at most local bookies or 20/1 (Blacktype) on-line. I mentioned the R word, apart from Bury and Bolton who are both odds on to go down (following both having a 12 points deduction) recalling last season’s last ditch escape Blues are among the next favourites @ 7/2 most or 4/1 at Hills or Betfred.
Looking at the offers available on top goalscorer for league1:
Ipswich’s new recruit James Norwood who’s goals ensured Tranmere’s promotion, looks a worthy favourite as he was joint English footballs top scorer along with Man City’s Sergio Aguero, each notching 32 goals last season. Available at around 8/1.
For Southend Steven Humphrys is available at around 33/1 but Betway offer 40/1. Our top scorer from last season, Simon Cox is also on offer at around 33/1 but you can get 50/1 with Betvictor and Betfred. Ex-blues Freddie Ladapo is around 16/1 generally, but 25/1 at bet365 or Joe Pigott 50/1, Hills and Betfred offer 66/1.
Again you can bet e/w with ¼ odds offered on the top four scorers. If you want an e/w on a long odds outsider Shrewsbury’s England C international Fejiri Okenabirhie will now be assisted by Millwall’s Steve Morison (on a season long loan), as he was with his second goal against Dundee Unt on Saturday.
Fejiri is generally available at 66/1 but no less than 100/1 with Betvictor. All odds are correct at time of writing but subject to change and given as a guide. Good luck if you fancy having a bob or two punt, but bet responsibly and remember the old adage. “Never bet what you can’t afford to lose.”
